Thirty-four-year old Cherish, who has been mentally retarded all of her life, and whose mental age is around 9 years old, was taught EFT in November 2006 during one session with her mother and me. This was designed to help her when she would become upset about certain events during the day, either at home, at school or at her job. She would not be able to calm down and relax, and her frenetic discomfort would continue until it finally went away, sometimes hours later. It was difficult for others to calm her down and sometimes she became combative and out of control physically. She would hit the side of her face causing bruising. Too large a girl to attempt to physically soothe, EFT was the perfect antidote for her. If Cherish is too distraught to do the EFT on herself, her Mother is able to do EFT on her causing a remarkable calming effect.

Cherish’s best friend, Lianne, “flipped out” at school.  Lianne is also 34 years old, has a mental age of 12 years, diagnosed with Down Syndrome. They are close friends and talk on the phone often in between times they spend together. Cherish was telling her mother all about Lianne’s episode that happened that day and said “I guess I should give Lianne my EFT paper to help her calm down, huh Mom?!”

Cherish’s mother was astounded that it was even remembered since she gets upset so infrequently now, and she is not aware of her daughter using the method. That she would remember such a simple, easy and wonderful technique is a testament to how easily available EFT is for all of us. Let Cherish’s modeling be a reminder and a help to all of us!
